
Japan House Los Angeles is proud to support the upcoming Furusato Film Festival-Tokunoshima on Saturday, Oct. 19, to celebrate the beauty and rich culture of the island of Tokunoshima, Kagoshima Prefecture.
Dive into these stories with back-to-back screenings of “Whale Island Tokunoshima” at 11 a.m. and “Tokunoshima, the Island of Bull-Sumo” at 2:20 p.m.
“Whale Island Tokunoshima” was produced independently by Shin-Sen-Gumi and features stunning sights of the island’s natural beauty, including whales, gorgeous sceneries, and gourmet food unique to the island.
“Tokunoshima, the Island of Bull-Sumo” is a short film based on the true story of the founder of Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant Group, Mitsuyasu Shigeta, and his older brother. The story follows the journey of a young boy who dreams of making his bull a yokozuna, the highest rank, as his love for bull-sumo grows.
